In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Chicago; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Illinois are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Chicago is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Chicago follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Enjoyed dining here and glad that I tried it, but I wasn't wowed by the experience or the dumplings. The dining room is long and fairly narrow, so there aren't lots of tables. You may be asked to share a table to save space and be served quicker. There is a substantial wait, and I waited a little over 30 minutes for a table near closing time. It's quite loud in the dining area and bustling since everyone is so close together. The decor in the dining room is bright and pleasing to the eye. I enjoyed the side dishes the most, especially the wood ear mushroom salad; and although I like the dumplings, I wasn't hugely impressed. They were hot and pretty tasty, but I would have liked more flavor. I would return here again but not as often as other restaurants I enjoy more.

First time in Chicago and had to go to Chinatown for dumplings! My girlfriend and I put ourselves on the waitlist around 1:30PM on a Sat, ended up being a 75 min wait. We ordered the cucumber salad, lamb & coriander dumplings steamed, and the wagyu & coriander dumplings fried. Everything was delicious! The skin was thin and filling was flavorful. I was a bit confused why they don't give you spoons since there's so much juice inside the dumpling. Once you bite into it, all the juice spills out. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. Staff was friendly and efficient. Would recommend if you're in the mood for some dumplings!

A consistently good dumpling staple in Chinatown. Of the fillings we tried, the lamb and coriander was the clear favorite, while the beef and onion was solid as well. The lamb skewers were another highlight - super tender and well seasoned. Wait time can get long, so be sure to put your name down first and explore around the area while you wait.

Itβs impressive on many fronts. They say that one of the keys to find a good Chinese restaurant is to make sure the patrons are Chinese. Wellβ¦ that ainβt the case here. Almost everyone is not Chinese, staff, chefs or patrons. But even with a seemingly unpronounceable name itβs good on the food front, staff front, decor front and cutlery front and experience frontβ¦ even with the legit tea collection they have in the dining space and the offering on the menu. We had the black puer and itβs pretty good. Just gotta steep it for 5 mins. And we had the steamed tomato egg dumpling π₯ which was superb with really thin skin. And pairing with the award winning vinegar and house made chilli crisp is the key. The pan fried tofu cabbage mushroom dumpling was good also β¦ comes with crackled starch based dumpling wings. Itβs not cheap but the whole experience with the bespoked plates and cutlery and furniture was very good. We asked the server how locals call the restaurant and he said QXYβ¦ brilliant!

It was my first time trying Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings in Chinatown, and overall it was a mixed experience. We ordered two types of dumplings β shrimp with egg and leek, and lamb with coriander β along with cucumber salad, wood ear mushroom salad, and chicken wings. I want to start by saying the service was excellent. Our server was incredibly polite, patient, and helpful, which really made a positive impression and added to the overall experience. Another thing that I truly appreciated was that they had halal option for dumplings, which is very customer oriented and thoughtful for a different type of clientele. As for the food, it was just okay. Everything was decent, but nothing stood out or gave that βwow, this is deliciousβ feeling I was hoping for. The dumplings were fine, but not particularly memorable, and the sides were pretty average as well. One thing that stood out in a less positive way was the portion size β they felt quite small for the price. Considering the cost, I expected either larger portions or more impressive flavors. Overall, itβs a nice place with great service, but the food didnβt quite live up to expectations for me.
